I say "GREAT", because lots of women are moms and are terrible at it. Being a mom takes little to no work aside from 9 months of pregnancy and then labor. Sure, to be a mom one has to feed and but clothes on the kid, but that is the bare necessities. To be a GREAT mom we have to sacrifice without so much as a thank you. Being a GREAT mom means that I have to be tuned in to the needs of my children and spend quality time with them, teach them the ways of the Lord and be in prayer for them. While reading my book today I came across this poem. It struck a chord with me as I am sure it would with most moms. We all struggle with the juggling acts that all moms are forced to play. (Thanks again Susan for the book!)
Now is the time to get things done...
wade in the water,
sit in the sun,
squish my toes
in the mud by the door,
explore the world in a boy just four.
Now is the time to study books,
flowers,
snails,
how a cloud looks;
to ponder "up,"
where God sleeps nights,
why mosquitos take such big bites.
Later there'll be time
to sew and clean,
paint the hall
that soft new green,
to make new drapes,
refinish the floor-
Later on...when he's not just four.
"Time Is of the Essence" by Irene Foster
I hope I am the kind of mom who recognizes quality time opportunities when I am in the midst of my own agenda. I pray that I can choose to do puzzles with Jordan and snuggle my babies instead cleaning or even blogging.
On a totally unrelated note this is my third post in a row without a picture. It must be driving Nicole Medlin crazy :)
